Manuscript Critique
Do you feel stuck with your manuscript?
Looking for help with the storytelling elements in your novel?
Or perhaps you're looking for the benefits of a full developmental edit without the same level of financial investment?
A manuscript critique approaches your novel in the same way as a developmental edit does, however, it includes just the editorial report for a more streamlined amount of feedback.
What issues does a manuscript critique address?
A manuscript critique focuses on the big-picture storytelling elements. These include:
Plot, structure, and pacing
Character motivation and development
Backstory and worldbuilding
Point of view and narration
Tropes and genre expectations
Story conflict and building tension
Theme, mood, and tone of the writing
What's Included in a Manuscript Critique?
One Full Editorial Pass
A manuscript critique comes with one full editorial pass through the manuscript to take in the full story picture.
During this read, I take notes on the progression of the story and characters to assist in the next step, compiling the report.
Editorial Report
After the read-through, I gather my notes and find patterns and areas of consideration.
This information goes into an editorial report, where I address the major storytelling elements that need improvement, as well as actionable steps to help writers make those story changes.
