Copyediting
You're happy with your story, but you have no idea where to put a comma or how to punctuate dialogue.
Copyediting addresses the line-level errors that can make your manuscript feel unprofessional or messy to a reader.
This stage of editing is where we catch and correct all the little errors that you, as the author, have become blind to because you've read over the story so many times!
What's Included in a Copyedit?
Each copyedit comes with three files:
-
One file with track changes edits
This includes a marked up manuscript with in-line correction of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and everything described below.
-
One clean file with all edits accepted
This is a duplicate of the marked up file, but all corrections have been accepted and implemented into the document, leaving a "clean" file to be used for your next steps.
-
A customized style sheet
This is a document outlining the stylistic choices made within the manuscript. This includes small spelling decisions like gray or grey. This document ensures that spelling is consistent throughout the manuscript, leaving a more professional result.
What issues does a copyedit address?
Grammar and syntax
Correct capitalization
Correct tense (past, present, or future)
Correcting faulty parallelism
Spelling and punctuation
Correct use of dashes, commas, periods, exclamation marks, etc.
Correcting typos (beings > begins)
Language and spelling consistency
Consistency in dialect (US English, UK English, etc.)
Copyediting is best done when you're happy with the story and your writing, but are looking for your manuscript to feel polished and professional.

Please note: due to the nature of correcting tens of thousands of words for grammar and spelling, there will always be errors left remaining after a copyedit. For the best result, follow this service with proofreading.
